The Hill District Grandstand Livestock Show is excited to welcome Garrit Sproull of Uhrichsville, Ohio, to the judging lineup for 2027!

With more than a decade of judging experience, a strong background in the show pig industry, and a passion for developing youth through livestock projects, Garrit brings valuable experience and perspective to the HDGS ring.

A Lifetime in the Livestock Industry

Garrit is a graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences.

Today, he owns and operates G&S Swine, a 125-sow show pig operation, alongside his wife, Abby; daughters, Sutton and Sawyer; brother, Grayden; and grandfather, Tom.

For Garrit, the livestock industry is truly a family affair. The opportunity to work alongside multiple generations of his family has given him firsthand experience with one of the qualities he values most about the livestock industry—its ability to bring families together.

Judging Across the Country

Over the past 13 years, Garrit has had the opportunity to evaluate livestock at shows across the United States.

His judging résumé includes major events such as the Houston Livestock Show, Tulsa State Fair, Arkansas State Fair, Indiana State Fair, and Indiana Youth Expo, along with numerous other livestock shows across the country.

Each opportunity allows Garrit to combine his knowledge of quality livestock with something he considers even more important: supporting the young people who dedicate countless hours to their projects.

Why Garrit Enjoys Judging

For Garrit, a day spent around livestock and young exhibitors is always a good one.

“Anytime you can be around youth and livestock is a great day! I love the competitiveness of it and how it can bring a family together like no other. Judging quality animals and even better kids is a privilege and one I take seriously.”

That combination of competition, family, and youth development is what continues to bring Garrit back to the show ring year after year.

The Value of Youth Livestock Projects

Garrit believes the lessons young people learn through livestock projects extend far beyond banners, buckles, and time spent in the show ring.

“The value of youth livestock events, in my opinion, is unmatched. The work ethic, responsibility, and dedication it takes to become successful flat out makes better kids and better people.”

As a father himself, those values have taken on an even greater meaning.

“I truly believe it is the best way in America to raise children, and I am excited to raise my kids in this industry.”

From early mornings in the barn to the responsibility of caring for an animal and the experience of competing in the ring, livestock projects provide young people with lessons and relationships that can last a lifetime.
